History

I was born in Baghdad in 1938 to a Jewish family.  After Israel was declared a State in 1948, almost all of the Iraqi Jewish community immigrated to Israel and so, in 1951, under the given name Nadra Nawi I moved to Israel with my Mother and siblings.  At that time, my father was in New York seeking medical help.

In Israel we were placed in tents in a ma’abara (transit camp) as refugees, because the Iraqi government confiscated all our money, properties, jewelry and belongings.  After a few months in that condition I was permitted to go with my older brother to Kibbutz Michmar Ha’Emek (meaning the watchers of the valley - Valley of Jezreel).

The two and a half years I spent in the kibbutz played a big role in my life in a positive and negative sense.  As a teenager, we were trained to work and we also studied in special classes.  It was a very good place to learn the Hebrew language and also about life in Israel.  Yet on the other hand, my teacher, from a Polish Bolshevik background, taught me that there is no such thing as God because if there was, He would not have allowed the Holocaust to take place.  She also told me that all the spiritual practices, such as Kabala, witchcraft and ghosts were all hoaxes.  The Kibbutz was affiliated with a leftist movement called Ha-Shomer Ha-Tsa’eer, meaning ‘the young watchers’; they were so leftist that when Stalin died in 1953 they declared a day of mourning.  Naturally and regretfully I pulled away from what I was taught at home.

When I left the kibbutz my Dad kept asking me: “What have they done to you? What have they done to you?”  But the Lord God is gracious and He returned me to Himself…

On August 18, 1964, about a month after my second marriage, my husband David, my seven year old daughter Yael and I left from Haifa, Israel to Marseilles by the ship Flamina for a tour of Europe and Canada. The tour should have ended in Vancouver, British Colombia but somehow we stopped in Montreal, Quebec and stayed there.

In Montreal I suffered the cold winter which I was not used to, a language that I did not understand, in addition to lack of familiarity with the big city and a new pregnancy.  I missed my family and friends and in the first year we changed apartments twice…  To say the least, I was feeling depressed.

One night we were invited by a friend of my husband to what I thought was a party.  I dressed appropriately, according to what I learned in the modeling school.  When we reached there I realized it was a Bible study and the fact that I did not understand English did not help.  I picked up a few words that indicated Bible and Joseph and God…  Being secular I thought these people were nuts and, feeling a bit bored, I looked to my right.  A young man (18 years old) sat there and we started a conversation.  He spoke Hebrew.  Wow…  When the meeting was over, people started socializing.  A Jamaican lady was introduced to me and she tried to converse with me…  Something about her captured my heart; something was familiar…  Yet I never met her before.  I invited her to visit me and sure enough she did.  It was very hard to communicate!

Somehow, I conveyed to her that I was bored.   Though our library that covered a whole wall of our living room was full, most of the books were in English and I had nothing to read.  On her next visit she brought a New Covenant (a New Testament) in Hebrew.

I started reading it from the beginning, like I would read any other book and was shocked to find very familiar names and subjects.

I reached Matthew 5:

27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’  28But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 31“Furthermore it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ 32But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.”

I paused.  Well, I am already divorced.  David is my second husband.  If I understand well, Yeshua (Jesus) is saying that I am an adulteress.  Even if I leave my husband, I will still be an adulteress.  No hope or remedy…  I tossed the book on the table and did not look at it again, until…  Until a few months later!

Meanwhile David, being Jewish and an Israeli, knew the Bible (I had no idea at the time that he believed in Yeshua).  He decided to start teaching Jewish History.  A few people that I did not know came one Thursday evening and continued to come every Thursday for a few months.  I assumed a role of a hostess.  Since I did not understand the language, I concerned myself with welcoming the people and serving refreshments.  Among this group, there was a young man by the name Bill.

Bill came to visit one Tuesday evening, and while I was attending to my baby in the bedroom, I overheard him talk with David in the living room.  Bill sounded excited about something.  I tried to understand…  I just knew it was something about God.

Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1965, I found myself kneeling by the couch and praying.  That was only the second time in my life ever to do so.  I have never seen a Jewish person on his knees.

The first time I knelt before God was in Natanya, Israel and asked Him for help about something important, yet on that September day, 1965, I addressed God in the way I heard Mom and others speak to Him and of course in the Hebrew language:

“God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (and entreated Him with my personal prayer), if you exist, give me an oath (תן לי אות), perform a miracle (עשה נס), please reveal yourself to me and speak to me black on white (שחור על לבן) so I will have no doubts.  If you do, I will give you my life and anything else you ask of me, even if you ask me to sacrifice Joyce as you asked Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, I will do that.”

I do not know where those words to my prayer came from.  I was not consciously thinking them before; I never heard anyone give his life to God and Joyce (my baby), was so dear to me.  Every night when I put her to bed I could not wait for the morning to be with her again…  But the words came from the depth of my heart and I meant every word!

The next day (Thursday, September 23, 1965) David was running errands, my older daughter Yael was in school and I found myself dusting our library.  I reached the last section.  The bottom shelf was not flat like the other shelves.  It was angled and outfitted with a bar to keep the books from sliding to the floor.  I picked up the yellow pages (though we lived in Montreal, interestingly enough, it was an Ottawa Yellow Pages where I am presently residing) and started dusting it.  I noticed a thick scroll between the pages, so I sat in a small arm chair that was close by, put the Yellow Pages on my lap, pulled the scroll out and started reading.  As I read this, I knew that I knew that God was speaking to me.  It was an answer to my request of the day before.  He and only He knew my request.  He was speaking to me black on white.

I sat there and thought:  How do I sanctify myself as I am requested?  I remembered that Moses asked the children of Israel to do that…  And from what do I need the sanctification? I was trying to think of wrong doings…  And what community is God speaking about?  David, Yael and Joyce were the only ones I lived with.

I also heard of the next world many times because my grandfather taught me about the Garden of Eden (גן עדן) and Hell (גיא הנם), and giving an account for our deeds on the Day of Judgment…

Suddenly I noticed that there was a comma at the end of the last paragraph and I thought:  there must be more.

To cut the story short, a great miracle happened, a miracle too big to publish on the internet and therefore I will keep it to myself but the second page had the same look and was written in the same style but the scroll was longer and with four paragraphs.

After reading the second scroll I was greatly perplexed…  For some reason, I got up and walked to the other side of the room and standing there, I faced the window across the room.   For a second I doubted what was written and while doing so I saw the scroll wrinkle before my eyes.  I knew that it was wrong to doubt especially after the miracle I have just seen.  Then I felt warmth that I did not know before manifest throughout my body, I ran to my bedroom and covered my head with a kerchief as women who fear God do (familiar from my childhood).  I was in awe of the one who could perform such miracles.  I felt that there was a Holy being in the room and peace I never knew came upon me.

Actually, a few days passed by the time I realized the extent of the miracle.  All my ailments left me.  My hair stopped falling, my hemorrhoids stopped bleeding, the yeast infections (which plagued me for years) disappeared, my sinuses cleared up and my tonsils which were scheduled to be removed did not bother me any more.  In a few days I could more or less converse in English (it was like someone untied my tongue).

Still, I was not yet aware of all the spiritual healing that was happening to set me on a new path.

My attitude about life changed overnight.  I had no more problems believing the parting the Red Sea nor with the virgin birth or Jonah in the belly of the whale or the donkey speaking to Balaam.  Neither Daniel being in the lion’s den…  God is so awesome and so powerful He can do anything He wants including the sending of the ten plagues on the Egyptians and opening the womb of the barren ones.

Psalms 18:49

"For this I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations, and sing to your name. Great salvation he brings to his king, and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his offspring forever."

Until then I was the queen of my castle; I thought whatever I pleased and did whatever I wanted if I could but now God was there!!!  Yeshua asked me to sanctify myself and to atone my sins…  I would have to give Him an account at the end of my life!!!  What I do and the way I live will have an impact on my future life on earth and in the next world; and more so, on the sons He promised me as it was written in the scroll.  If I listen all my past will be forgiven and I will start a new page in life.

Since that day the Torah and the New Covenant have become my guide and the motivator of my life.

Jeremiah 31:31

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Jehovah, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah.  Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; My covenant that they broke although I ruled them like a husband, declares Jehovah.   But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares Jehovah: I will put My law in their inward parts, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.  And they shall no longer teach each man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, know Jehovah; for they shall all know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, declares Jehovah.   For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.”

In addition to my two daughters, the Lord blessed me after that with three wonderful sons (as He promised), twelve grandchildren and two great granddaughters to date, and may He continue to bless.  Amen.

Isaiah 49:5,6  "And now says Jehovah that formed me from the womb to be His servant, to bring Jacob back to Him and to gather Israel unto Him, for I am honorable in the eyes of Jehovah, and my God is become my strength;   And He said , it is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give you for a light to the Nations, that you may be my salvation unto the end of the earth."

End of quote.

Because of Yeshua (Jesus), there is Torah (the word of God), in every church in the Nations, with the message of salvation all over the world!

He is the one who will bring Jacob back to God (as He did to me), and will gather the outcast of Israel.
